I wouldn't be surprised if I get my butt kicked for this, but Courtnnie has made it to my "Inspiring People" list. First off, it's her birthday today and I'm really sad that I'm missing it. She's up in Alaska with her husband and new baby and I'm stuck down here in Florida. I'd love to wake her ass up at the crack of dawn and go get a Blueberry Multi-grain pancake with her at IHOP as a birthday breakfast. Then I'd take her yard saling followed by grabbing cupcakes at our favorite cupcake place in Palm Harbor. Then we'd go play with the kitties and puppies at the shelter and we'd both talk about how we wish we could adopt them all. (Actually I'd be saying "are you done yet? These dogs are so loud. Let's go play with the kitties again") Then we'd go get some 'cooked' sushi, drive by our future pink house, wear our hulk gloves while driving a car and then see a comedy show. Ohhh but we'd totally dress up as if we were going to a ball and then take a million selfies before we showed up at the comedy show. The End!
This girl and I have had so many good times together and it makes me miss her even more just thinking about it. I'm tearing up as I write this. But I'm so incredibly proud of the choices that she made in life. Her life overall was not an easy one and yet she pulled up her big girl pants and made it through. Growing up in a small town in Florida and having only been out of state on a handful of occasions and then moving to Alaska with a NEW man/husband must have been scary for her. She did it with a smile and the willingness to enjoy the adventure. She packed up everything she owned and said YES to love! Hauling all her stuff and her new husband in a vehicle which made its way across country and somehow managed to make it to Kodiak Alaska. Have any of you ever looked at where KODIAK ALASKA is? Look that shit up and tell me that wouldn't be scary as hell when you've only lived in Florida your whole life. You know those shows with the fishing boats and the big waves... Deadliest Catch... Yeah Kodiak is one of their docking locations. BRRRRRR!
It was one of the coolest things going up there to see her and her new little life. Her married life. She married a great guy and I couldn't be happier for the two of them. He came from a family of Coast Guards and he followed in his father's footsteps and became one himself. When I was there I saw how much love they had between them. While I was up there we were celebrating Courtnnie's pregnancy. It was exciting to think that Courtnnie was going to have a baby. When I got back to "the lower 48" (as they would say in Alaska) I talked to Courtnnie everyday of her pregnancy. Learning through her experience the trials and tribulations of being pregnant. Ohh and being pregnant in Alaska seems a whole lot harder. Unlike the lower 48 where you can choose your doctor or request a specific one, in Alaska she had 5 doctors and they rotated them on purpose so you never got used to just one.
Once she had her bundle of Joy she showed me how much sleep a girl can miss out on before looking like Ursala. She was not only dealing with sleepless nights, but Wyatt (baby boy) loves to hear his own screaming voice. She'd be on the phone with me and I think I had to ask her what at least 20 times during each conversation. Courtnnie is a trooper. She continues to amaze me with all the things she manages to deal with on her own. No family, no long time friends, just her and her husband making their way through a first time marriage and child.
I miss this girl so much and although I can't be their for her 26th birthday (damn you're old) I will be their in spirit. Holding her hair back when she drinks too many shots. Laughing when she stumbles on the sidewalk with nothing in her way. And taking random pictures with random Russian men for no reason at all. Ahhh the good times. Well I suppose I will have to wait until you move back down to Florida to start our yard saling adventures again. I love you girl! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
